  2. It Had To Happen is one of the McMurtry albums my hand often skips when making a selection, and I’m not sure why, as it’s sincerely good. The musicianship found on this outing, it’s a step above, where James experiments with new ideas, yet is still manic about his attention to the ‘every man’, along with some new musical concepts, including a grouping of more funky arrangements.
