Throughout the '30s and early '40s he recorded with such diverse artists as Crosby, violinist Harry Bluestone, Judy Garland, the Boswell Sisters, Cleo Brown and Artie Shaw. Bobby's goal was to lead his own band, and in early 1942 his chance came with Capitol Records, then a brand new label.
