19 de oct. de 2023 · The Colosseum, also named the Flavian Amphitheater, is a large amphitheater in Rome. It was built during the reign of the Flavian emperors as a gift to the Roman people. Construction of the Colosseum began sometime between C.E. 70 and 72 under the emperor Vespasian.
The Colosseum (/ ˌ k ɒ l ə ˈ s iː ə m / KOL-ə-SEE-əm; Italian: Colosseo [kolosˈsɛːo]) is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, just east of the Roman Forum. It is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built, and is still the largest standing amphitheatre in the world, despite its age.
Over time, as blood sport went out of fashion, the Colosseum was no longer host to the gladiators and emperors of the past. It served various purposes throughout the centuries and, ultimately today, is the iconic symbol of Rome that attracts millions of visitors per annum.

El Coliseo fue concebido y construido durante el reinado de la Dinastía Flavia. Esta Dinastía consistía en el emperador Vespasiano y sus dos hijos, Tito y Domiciano, que gobernaron después de él respectivamente. Originalmente llamado Anfiteatro Flavio, en honor a esta Dinastía, el apodo Colosseo llegaría después.
