In Performance 1970–1974 is a four CD box-set of live Mott the Hoople concerts between 1970 and 1974. Playing were the original members of the band and also, the new members incorporated in 1973 after Verden Allen's May departure, and Mick Ralph's August departure.

This collection goes a long way to rectify that, gathering together in one package the four best live discs in their catalogue. There's the Croydon set, recorded in 1970 but only released in its entirety in 2007. This is the night when they blew headliners Free off the stage and perhaps realised they were well on their way to becoming headliners.
In 1974, Mott the Hoople toured America with Ariel Bender playing lead guitar. In one of Bender's earliest performances with the band they played the Masonic Temple in Detroit on 12 October 1973 with a young Aerosmith opening the show. They were primarily supported on the '74 tour by the band Queen.
