A 1997 American slasher film based on the novel by Lois Duncan, about four friends who are stalked by a hook-wielding killer one year after covering up a car accident in which they killed a man. The film was a commercial and critical success, and revitalized the slasher genre in the 1990s. It is the first installment in a franchise and has been followed by several sequels and remakes.
