13 de dic. de 2023 · 2023 was as big a year as James Ford has ever had. In addition to the release of his first solo LP, The Hum , Ford produced Jessie Ware’s That! Feels Good! , Geese’s 3D Country , Depeche Mode’s Memento Mori , the self-titled debut from Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall’s The WAEVE, and Blur’s first album in eight years, The Ballad of Darren .
James Ellis Ford has been hidden in plain sight for his entire two-decade-long career. The composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter has worked with some of the biggest names in music, from Arctic Monkeys to Depeche Mode via Foals, Gorillaz and Kylie Minogue and as part of Simian Mobile Disco and The Last Shadow Pups’ touring band.
I've followed James career as he grew up in the same small town as me, but the praise for this album isn't nepotism. The album is a musician/producers labour of love and uses the aforementioned influences, but has enough uniqueness to stand out from a lot of new music that are usually derivative re-treads of what's come before.
12 de may. de 2023 · But with a home studio, a vast array of instruments played by his own hands, and a courageous appetite for exploring beyond his comfort zone, Ford’s first album The Hum shows off his talents far more. You wouldn’t think this is Ford’s first time playing bass clarinet, or singing, or even recording a solo album due to the sheer quality of it.
