About Henry Flynt Since the early-‘60s, hillbilly minimalist fiddler and acculturated avant-savant, Henry Flynt, has waged a multi-front war on culture that’s encompassed everything from dance, painting and concept art, to philosophical treatises on mathematics and utopian politics.
Henry Flynt (Greensboro, NC, 1940) is a philosopher, composer, and artist. In 1960 and 1961 he announced some of the ideas that have occupied him ever since, including concept art. Most of his concept art documents were published in An Anthology, ed. La Monte Young (1963).. In 1975, he led a country rock band called Nova’billy.

In 1961, after his New York debut in Yoko Ono's Chambers Street loft, he originated the idea of concept art. Then, in 1962, Flynt initiated a utopian critique of art from the stand-point of the absolute subjectivity of taste.
