Hamburger Concerto is my second Focus album listened to and now my second Focus review. (To my ears,) This blows Moving Waves (Focus II) right out of the water (no water/wave pun intended). While Moving Waves seemed to amble around, looking for a purpose, Hamburger Concerto finds its place right from the start.

Hamburger Concerto is an innovative piece in six movements with flashes of classical and symphonic prog. Each movement was named after the different stages of making a hamburger. The tuneful title track remains one of Focus' most accomplished pieces in terms of construction. It’s more than just another obligatory lengthy instrumental.

ROCK · 1974. Though the Dutch prog rockers Focus would pull an about-face toward commerciality on their next record, Hamburger Concerto is the peak of their progressivism. The 20-minute title suite that occupies the album's second half is Focus at their most musically sophisticated, seamlessly blending rock energy and classical-flavored themes.
