The 2009 WGC-HSBC Champions was a golf tournament that was contested from 5–8 November 2009 at the Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai, China.It was the first WGC-HSBC Champions tournament, and the fourth of four World Golf Championships events held in 2009.. Phil Mickelson won the tournament, and claimed his second World Golf Championships title of the year and for his career.
The WGC – HSBC Champions is one of four World Golf Championships played around the globe and the only World Golf Championship in Asia. Considered to be ‘Asia’s Major’, HSBC Champions is the biggest golf tournament in Asia played at Sheshan International Golf Club and offers the richest prize purse in the region at USD 10.25 million.
The 2011 WGC-HSBC Champions at Sheshan was won by Martin Kaymer by a three strokes. Kaymer played excellently all week but produced a stunning final round, birdying nine of the last twelve holes to card a round of 63 – equalling the course record. In doing so he overtook the long-time tournament leader, Freddie Jacobson of Sweden, on the back 9.
