“The Great Speckled Bird ... Roy Acuff helped intensify the star system at the Grand Ole Opry and remained the show’s leading personality until his death. In addition, he co-founded Acuff-Rose Publications, thus laying an important cornerstone of the Nashville music industry.
15 de sept. de 2018 · Around the same time that Acuff recorded his first session, ARC was purchased by Columbia. During this period, the merged labels were unsure what to do with their hillbilly acts. Thus, Roy’s recording of “The Great Speckled Bird” was held in limbo. Finally the company decided to record Acuff in early 1938 under its “Vocalion” banner.
