By 1630, Gonville & Caius College had expanded considerably, having about 25 Fellows and 150 students, but during the unsettled times that followed, numbers declined and did not recover their 1630 level until 1840, after which expansion was rapid. A larger Hall and a new Library were built in 1853-4.

Gonville & Caius has a magnificent Library which serves both the needs of the College community and the research interests of scholars from all over the world. Since 1996 it has been housed in the 19th-century Grade 1 listed Cockerell Building, originally the University Library.

  5. Caius is a traditional law college: we have a strong reputation for law, and admit 10 to 12 undergraduates and 8 to 12 graduates in law each year. If you would like to find out more about financial help for students studying Law at Caius, please see our financial support page.

  6. Visiting Caius. The College is closed to general visitors on weekdays during term. Members and others with business in the College will still be able to access the College via the Porters’ Lodge, but please arrange visits in advance. Prospective applicants for undergraduate and postgraduate study are very welcome to visit the College at any time.

  7. The railway station is located one kilometre south of the city centre. From there you will need to take either a taxi or a bus to Caius. Buses run roughly every ten minutes and you should ask for a ticket to the city centre.
