Atlantic released his first album, Garden of Love Light, in 1977 with a single that reached the R&B chart. The album was followed by I Cry I Smile and The Awakening. The latter album reached No. 15 on the R&B chart.
Perhaps the best hint of this is "You Got the Soul", perhaps a better single choice. The album closer "You Are Love" is a big ballad - missing a bit on execution but has its heart in the right place. 1976 with spots with John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius, and more was a particularly active year for the man.
