Gabor A. Somorjai (born May 4, 1935) is a professor of chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and is a leading researcher in the field of surface chemistry and catalysis, especially the catalytic effects of metal surfaces on gas-phase reactions ("heterogeneous catalysis").
Professor Somorjai is a surface science expert who studies the structure, bonding, and reactivity of molecules on solid surfaces. He uses various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, and investigates catalytic reactions, adhesion, lubrication, and biocompatibility.
BIOGRAFÍA. Gabor A. Somorjai (Budapest, Hungría; 1935) empezó a estudiar Ingeniería Química en la Universidad de Budapest, pero tuvo que emigrar cuando en 1956 la Unión Soviética invadió Hungría en respuesta a la Revolución Húngara. En Estados Unidos, ingresó en la Universidad de California en Berkeley, donde se doctoró en Química en 1960.
