Elektra. Frederick J. Maher is an American drummer, music programmer and record producer. He was a member of the bands Massacre (1980–81), the Dance, Material, Scritti Politti, and has recorded and toured with Lou Reed. In 1984 he released Basic, an instrumental collaboration album with ex- Voidoids guitarist Robert Quine .

Fred Maher is a staff producer at Elektra Records and drummer Fred was a member of Material until the release of Memory Serves, after which he quit.From 1984-1988 Fred was the drummer of Scritti Politti. After leaving Scritti Politti he began producing and still performs as a studio musician.

The way he tells it, his parents started him with violin lessons, but that conflicted with the Batman show on tv, so out went the violin lessons.
