Fairminer's position was eventually assumed by Frank Torpey (born Frank Edward Torpey, 30 April 1945, Kilburn, North West London) – a schoolfriend of Tucker's who had just left West London group The Tribe (aka The Dream). Torpey only lasted a few months, and in late 1967 Robin Box (born 19 June 1944) took his place.
24 de mar. de 2024 · Frank Torpey, the last surviving original member of The Sweet, has sadly passed away. His family have posted the following message on Facebook. “Frank passed away in his home surrounded by family at 1AM on Saturday 23rd March 2024.

25 de dic. de 2018 · Sweet was born. by Frank Torpey. My first band in 1962 was an instrumental group mainly Shadows, myself, Mick Tucker (drums), John Neighbor (bass) and Fred G (guitar). Next band 1963 /64 Dino and the Diamonds semi pro outfit. We worked fairly decent venues.
You might have wondered where all these stomping, shout-along pop confections came from and the answer is UK glam outfit The Sweet. The band actually dates back to the late '60's and one of its co-founders was a guitarist named Frank Torpey. Though he didn't stay in the band long, he helped create a legacy.
