Frank Croutch Blue Mountain is an American alt-country / roots rock band formed in 1991 in Oxford , Mississippi , by Cary Hudson (guitar and vocals) and Laurie Stirratt (bass and harmony vocals), who is the twin sister of John Stirratt , the bass player for the like-minded Americana band Wilco .

Biography. Hudson was born in the town of Sumrall, Mississippi, located approximately 15 miles from Hattiesburg. Prior to Blue Mountain, Hudson was in a band called The Hilltops, and Blue Mountain formed out of The Hilltops. Blue Mountain featured numerous drummers, most infamously Frank Coutch, and bassist/wife of Hudson, Laurie Stirratt .

Back in Oxford, Blue Mountain began performing in earnest with drummer Matt Brennan. Soon, Frank Coutch replaced Brennan, and in 1993 the band released their self-titled debut album on their own 4-Barrel Records. “ We recorded it for $1,000, and it sounds like a $1,000 record, too, ” Stirratt told Maples of No Depression.
