He started a film club and befriended André Bazin, one of France’s most renowned film critics and theorists, who even housed the young outcast.
François Truffaut was a self-taught genius whose achievements belie his humble origins. He was born in Paris on the 6th February 1932 to an unmarried young woman, Jeanine de Monferrand, who was a secretary on the newspaper L'Illustration.
