Fannie Flagg obtint la renommée internationale grâce à son deuxième roman "Beignets de Tomates Vertes" (Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, 1987), dont elle écrivit le scénario pour le film éponyme qui fut réalisé, en 1991, avec Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary Louise Parker et Cicely Tyson.
Fannie Flagg schrieb zahlreiche Bücher.
