1 de mar. de 2024 · Something of an anomaly in the context of the album, opener “Heavy Tune” finds former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor’s steely guitar work adding a hard rock edge to a strident jazz-funk jam.
The other two shared by Bon Lozaga and the introductory track "Heavy Tune" showcasing the Rolling Stones' own Mick Taylor providing the most rock oriented track on the album. While EXPRESSO II is a decent enough album, for me its a step down in terms of the jazz-fusion qualities. While "Gazeuse!"
8 de mar. de 2016 · A very short album, Expresso II is possibly the strongest of the post-Allen Gong, and an essential album. This was my introduction to Gong. After all I'd read about stoned-out pixies and the like, this was the first Gong I ever heard.
Anyway, this is a fusion/jazz album with it's main focus on rhythms and xylophones. There is no keyboards here at all. But Darryl Way does an excellent job on violin and the same does Mr Holdsworth on guitar. Mick Taylor also does a great job on solo guitars.

Expresso II, released in early 1978, was produced-somewhat curiously-by John Wood, best known for his collaboration with folkster Joe Boyd. The chunky riff and stiff backbeat of "Heavy Tune" kick off the record, yielding to a solo from guest guitarist Mick Taylor (Moerlen would perform on his solo album).
