Lady Dorothy Evelyn Cavendish, was born 27 August 1750. She was the only daughter of William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire, and his wife, Lady Charlotte Elizabeth Boyle, 6th Baroness Clifford. Her mother died when she was only four, and her father when she was fourteen, and she and her three brothers were under the guardianship of her Cavendish uncles.
