Etta Baker (March 31, 1913 – September 23, 2006) was an American Piedmont blues guitarist and singer from North Carolina . Early life and career. She was born Etta Lucille Reid in Caldwell County, North Carolina, of African-American, Native American, and European-American heritage. [1] [2] Baker began playing guitar at the age of three.

Etta Baker is a legendary African-American guitarist who played the southern Piedmont style of blues and rags. She was born in 1913 in North Carolina and taught herself how to play the guitar from her father and other family members. She recorded her music with Paul Clayton and released an album of her own in 1964. She composed many tunes and passed on her musical traditions to her children and grandchildren.
