After the dissolution of the Comedian Harmonists in 1935 and after leaving the successor formation Meistersextett in 1938, Erwin worked at the Berlin cabaret of comedians as an author, orchestra leader, composer and comedian.
Erwin Bootz spielte leidenschaftlich Schach, liebte Katzen und war Mitglied des Freundschaftsbundes „Schlaraffia“ zur Pflege von Kunst und Humor. Die Comedian Harmonists waren nur eine Episode in seinem Leben, denn er strebte ursprünglich schon immer eine Solokarriere an.

As actor Blake Roman just told us, Erwin idolized cabaret performers, and while he found work in the cabaret scene, he still found himself wanting. He eventually found his place as the pianist for the Comedian Harmonists.
