18 de oct. de 2018 · But the band itself was real enough, and by the early ‘70s, Skull Snaps’ Samm Culley and Ervan Waters had built reputations as seasoned vocalists. As members of RnB close harmony group The Diplomats, they released eleven 7”s on various labels between 1963 and 1970, performed regularly at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem and were among the first RnB groups to play Carnegie Hall.

For one thing, they were never really a one-off: Samm Culley (vocals, bass, percussion), Ervan Waters (vocals, guitar) and George Bragg (vocals, drums) had already been making music together for some time, with Culley and Waters earning renown in the Maryland/D.C.-area soul group the Diplomats in the 1960s.
