Over the years we have seen member after member of the group pass, and today we’re sad to report the death, at age 72, of the final member of the original lineup of the group, the ever-smiling drummer, Ernest “Bilbo” Berger. The Czech native reportedly died of a heart attack.
Drummer Ernest "Bilbo" Berger died on 1 March 2024, at the age of 73. He was the last original member of Heatwave. The musicians who call themselves 'Heatwave' today never belonged to the original group.

British songwriter Rod Temperton was among the original line-up for the disco hit makers, and would famously go on to work with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones on Off The Wall.
