N o 5 est un parfum des Parfums Chanel créé en 1921 par Ernest Beaux pour Coco Chanel qui désirait un parfum épuré en accord avec sa mode : « Un parfum artificiel, je dis bien artificiel comme une robe, c'est-à-dire fabriqué. Je suis un artisan de la couture. Je ne veux pas de rose, de muguet, je veux un parfum qui soit un composé. » [1].

Ernest Beaux was a bit surprised by Coco's irrational choice but soon he would see that Coco was right. The first order were only 100 flacons, intended as a 1921 Christmas present for the best Chanel customers. But the succes was such that Coco Chanel soon wanted to officially sell the product.
By then, Ernest Beaux had already signed several successful contracts that included “Bouquet de Napoléon” cologne in 1912 – a tribute to the 100 th anniversary of the Borodino battle, as well as its female version, the “Bouquet de Catherine,” dedicated to the 300 th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty.
Chanel No. 5 fragrance. Chanel No. 5 was the first perfume launched by French couturier Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel in 1921.
