Major Eric Anthony Sykes (5 February 1883 – 12 May 1945), born Eric Anthony Schwabe, was a soldier and firearms expert. He is most famous for his work with William E. Fairbairn in the development of the eponymous Fairbairn–Sykes fighting knife and modern British Close Quarters Battle (CQB) martial arts during World War II.

Eric Sykes and Hattie Jacques portray twins who live together in East Acton and enjoy a slightly surreal life, bothering their snobbish next-door neighbour Mr. Brown and getting into frequent difficulties with the local constable.
Eric Sykes and Jonathan Miller, on the other hand, veer towards caricature in their portrayals of the obsessed father and his automatous son. But at least the latter, conducting his weighing machines, provides the only memorable (if oft repeated) image in a film so visually ineffectual, particularly during the longish fantasy trial, that one might get the message just as well blindfold."
