Eric Liddell was a Scottish Olympic gold medallist, rugby union international and Christian missionary. He is best remembered for refusing to compete on Sundays during the 1924 Paris Olympics because of his belief, based on the Bible, that Sundays are set aside by God as special and not for work.

8 de dic. de 2015 · In 1924, Eric Liddell was given the honor of running for the 100 meters in the Olympics, but when found out it was scheduled for Sunday, he refused to run believing Sunday to be the Lord’s Day and a day of rest. Scotland criticized him for this decision, calling him a traitor. He was put into the 400 meter race which happened later that week.
