Earlier this year, his son Roger made an emotional journey to visit the battlefield where his father was killed along with thousands of other Allied troops.

Waters was born on 6 September 1943, the younger of two boys, to Mary (née Whyte; 1913–2009) and Eric Fletcher Waters (1914–1944), in Great Bookham, Surrey. His father, the son of a coal miner and Labour Party activist, was a schoolteacher, a devout Christian, and a Communist Party member.
Eric Fletcher Waters was a religious Christian and a pacifist. During the early years of the WWII, Eric was exempted from military service as a conscientious objector and he served as an ambulance driver in Cambridge.
19 de sept. de 2023 · Second Lieutenant Eric Fletcher Waters was born in County Durham in 1914. He and his wife Mary had two sons: John, who later became a taxi driver, and Roger, who became one of the founding members of the rock group Pink Floyd.
