Clapton introduces “Pearly Queen,” the second track on Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert to feature a Steve Winwood lead vocal. 28 de feb. de 2022 · Location: New York. Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert with Pete Townshend, Rick Grech, Jim Capaldi, Ronnie Wood, Rebop, Jimmy Karstein and Steve Winwood. On January 13, 1973, Eric Clapton was lured out of semi-retirement for a pair of shows at London’s Rainbow Theatre. Pete Townshend was the one who organized the concerts for Clapton.

Eric took part in the first large-scale rock benefit concert, "The Concert for Bangladesh,” in two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City organized by his friend, George Harrison, and Ravi Shankar. Rehearsals took place at the venue the day before.
The two shows resulted in a live album, “Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert”. By the end of 1973, Eric had kicked heroin for good. Before resuming his career, he took a small part in the Ken Russell film version of The Who’s “Tommy”. For his “comeback” album, Eric put together ERIC CLAPTON AND HIS BAND I.

Eric performed the first night of his record-breaking 24 Nights at London's Royal Albert Hall. During his fifth and longest residency at the venue, Eric performed with a four-piece band, nine-piece band, blues band and full orchestra. All of the concerts were recorded for a live album and broadcast in their entirety by the BBC.
