Endre Alexander Balazs (10 January 1920 – 29 August 2015) was a Hungarian physician and inventor who transformed a natural lubricant into a palliative for arthritic knees. Endre A. Balazs, MD distinguished himself through pioneering research on the structure and biological activity of hyaluronan, a viscoelastic polysaccharide present in all tissues of the human body, but in larger amounts in the vitreus of the eye and in the soft tissues of joints and skin.
