Mum was raised in Dunedin by her parents, our nana and grandad, Lorna and Tom Ryan, who lived into their nineties. We hail from County Clare and County Tipperary in Ireland.

Since then, wāhine in Parliament have celebrated many accomplishments and milestones. In 1933, Elizabeth Reid McCombs became New Zealand’s first woman member of Parliament, succeeding her husband in a by-election.

The House of Representatives’ response to the death of the Queen. The new Sovereign King Charles III automatically and immediately became New Zealand’s new head of State after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
