Mum was raised in Dunedin by her parents, our nana and grandad, Lorna and Tom Ryan, who lived into their nineties. We hail from County Clare and County Tipperary in Ireland.

Since then, wāhine in Parliament have celebrated many accomplishments and milestones. In 1933, Elizabeth Reid McCombs became New Zealand’s first woman member of Parliament, succeeding her husband in a by-election.
