Wood Jr. (Johnny Depp), a crossdressing wannabe auteur in the 1950s who befriends his hero, a washed-up and drug-addled Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau), and makes schlocky B-movies with a misfit crew.

Haunted by a lifetime of failure, Wood would turn to adult film in a last-ditch effort to stay in the industry he loved. In 1978, he died destitute and largely unknown at the age of 54.
