Before the electric trolleys, there was the horsecar line of the Alexandria Passenger Railway (APR), which served Alexandria, Virginia, for just over a year in the 1870s.Starting on July 12, 1873, the APR ran two horse-drawn cars on tracks from the Ferry Wharf, west on King Street and then south on Peyton Street to the old stone bridge over Hooff's Run.
