(Interview by Simon Helm) Dubstar first came to prominence in the 1990s with the kind of hummable dreampop songs that worked as well driving as in clubs. Despite chart success, they went on hiatus at the end of the decade.

Circle Turns had a very dreamy, ambient feel to it, mainly because there wasn’t much of a song to work with beyond Sarah’s poem… this left a lot of space to fill. In My Defence had also started as a poem. The original version had a large amount of space in it too, probably more than any other fully arranged Dubstar song.
1 de nov. de 2018 · Disgraceful, Dubstar’s impressive first album, emerged in the second half of 1995 to rave reviews.The batch of tunes had its production divided between Robinson and the established talents of Stephen Hague. Dubstar’s mix of alternative, electronic and dance pop was sonically spot on for the decade, but it was Blackwood’s modish chanteuse vocalizing that mesmerized fans and critics alike.
Dubstar are Sarah Blackwood and Chris Wilkie. Forming in 1993 and signing to Food / EMI Records in 1994, they released their hugely successful debut Disgraceful in 1995, which yielded the hit singles Not so Manic Now, Stars , and Anywhere. The albums Goodbye and Make It Better followed shortly after.

6 de may. de 2022 · Dubstar are the sometimes bleak human existence backed by the sometimes ironic glisten of metropolis (“get me out of this place, get me out of this place” sings Sarah Blackwood in ‘Blood’). The city theming is immediately apparent in Two ’s imposing cover art; a slick and imposing CGI building, all grey and brutal and beautiful.
