Downing College has a unique and magnificent setting amidst 20 acres of lawns and trees, yet is in the very centre of Cambridge. The buildings, which are predominantly neo-classical in style, convey a sense of elegance and spaciousness, enhanced by harmonious proportions, graceful columned porticos and delicate pink and yellow stone.
The membership of Downing College comprises around 500 postgraduate students, 500 undergraduates and 48 Fellows. At the start of academic year 2022-23, Downing College provides 435 rooms for undergraduates and 166 rooms for postgraduates. The College has a number of rooms which have been specially adapted for disabled students. Downing College offers a flexible venue with facilities suitable for conferences, meetings, weddings and gala dinners, together with 180 ensuite bedrooms for residential events. While the College environment itself is quiet and peaceful, the museums, shops and River Cam in the very heart of Cambridge are only a few minutes' walk away.
Turn left at this junction onto Regent Street and continue for about 0.3 miles to the main gates of Downing College, on the left-hand side. From A14 Huntingdon, Southbound. From the A14, take the A1307 Huntingdon Road to Cambridge, signposted City Centre. After about 1 mile, you will arrive at a major traffic-light-controlled junction.
