”Down on Stovall’s Plantation” is een historische registratie van feitelijk de eerste opnamen van Muddy Waters. Deze opnamen komen uit 1941-1942 en zijn onderdeel van de legendarisch Library of Congress Recordings. Te horen is rauwe eerlijke en pure blues. Muddy Waters die zichzelf begeleidt op gitaar, verder niets.
Biografie. Waters zei meestal dat hij in 1913 in Rolling Fork (Mississippi) was geboren, maar hij is eigenlijk in het nabijgelegen Issaquena County geboren.. Hij groeide op bij zijn grootmoeder in Clarksdale Mississippi op Stovall Plantation en zij was het die hem zijn bijnaam bezorgde: omdat hij als kind in de nabijgelegen rivier speelde noemde zij hem Muddy Water.

Muddy Waters lived most of his first thirty years in a house on this site, part of the Stovall Plantation. In 1996, the restored house was put on display at the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale. Muddy Waters was first recorded here in 1941 by Alan Lomax, who was compiling songs for the Library of Congress. Muddy Waters is known as the king of Chicago blues.
