Two of the original touring group members have died: keyboardist/vocalist/songwriter Jim Pfahler died on March 10, 2003, at age 54, and rhythm guitarist Doug Grassel died of lung fibrosis on September 21, 2013, at age 64. Bassist Dean Kastran became a member of national act called The Cyrkle beginning in June 2021.

The initial line-up included Joey Levine on vocals, Dale Powers on guitar, Doug Grassel on second guitar, Jim Pfahler on keyboards, Dean Kastran on bass and Tim Corwin on drums. Under the aegis of producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz, Ohio Express surfaced repeatedly on the late-'60s pop charts.

Ohio Express were originally put together by bubblegum-pop producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeffrey Katz, who also worked with the Music Explosion and 1910 Fruitgum Co., in 1967.
