Donna Jean Thatcher Godchaux-MacKay (born August 22, 1947) is an American singer best known as a member of the rock band the Grateful Dead from 1972 to 1979. In addition to the Dead, she performed with the Jerry Garcia Band and the short-lived Heart of Gold Band, all alongside her first husband, Keith Godchaux.

Donna Jean left the Muscle Shoals area in 1970 for San Francisco where she met her late husband, piano player Keith Godchaux. The Godchaux's joined “The Grateful Dead” in 1971 and were band members through March of 1979.
Donna Jean Godchaux was a beautiful southern girl who grew up in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. A man named Rick Hall founded a studio there called "Fame," and before too long, people began to talk about the Muscle Shoals sound.
