The funeral took place today in West Belfast of veteran republican and former IRA hunger striker Dolours Price (62) who was found dead in her home in Malahide, Dublin, last Wednesday. Former women comrades from jail flanked the Tricolour-draped coffin throughout the funeral procession.
Dolours Price, the subject of this documentary, made international headlines with her sister Marian in the 1970s, when they undertook a long hunger strike in a British prison. I Dolours is a stylish production based around relatively sparse interview footage with Price (some of it used previously in 2010’s Voices from the Grave ), dramatic re-enactments and news reports.
The sudden death of Dolours Price in Malahide, Dublin, on 23 January 2013 had refocused international attention on the then unresolved ‘Boston College tapes’ controversy. Price had indicated in 2010 that a deposition that she had contributed to the American college’s ‘Belfast Project’ might contain material pertinent to PSNI investigations into several IRA killings in the early 1970s.
