14 de may. de 2024 · The same year that Sanborn made upfront, he also took part in a Tim Berne album for JMT called Diminutive Mysteries (Mostly Hemphill). As that title suggests, it’s a tribute to Julius Hemphill , perhaps the only obvious point of convergence for Sanborn and Berne.

Hace 6 días · Although Sanborn is most known for smooth jazz, he grew up studying free jazz alongside saxophonists Roscoe Mitchell and Julius Hemphill. In 1993, he returned to this genre with his appearance in Tim Berne’s Diminutive Mysteries, which was dedicated to Hemphill. Sanborn’s CD Another Hand included avant-garde artists.
13 de may. de 2024 · Sanborn's recall of Butterfield's Pigmeat Cranshaw (a classic) takes me back . . and his ambitious albums like Another Hand (produced by Hal Willner and Marcus Miller w/Marc Ribot and Bill Frisell, Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Mulgrew Miller and more) and Diminutive Mysteries (with Tim Berne) well worth hearing.
