  4. Dick Sheppard School, the L.C.C. secondary school for girls opened in Tulse Hill in September 1955. Considered to be a modern school with all the latest equipment, this view shows the magnificent Assembly Hall. The school was closed down in 1994 and the site redeveloped for private housing. It was named after the Anglican clergyman, Dick Sheppard, noted for turning St Martin-in-the-Fields church into a social centre for the needy and destitute of central London. The name thus resonated with that of the local girls’ grammar school, St Martin-In-The-Fields High School.
