Desmond Leo Haynes (born 15 February 1956) is a former Barbadian cricketer and cricket coach who played for the West Indies cricket team between 1978 and 1994. He was a member of the squads which won the 1979 Cricket World Cup as well as finishing as runners-up at the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
Desmond Haynes was a right-handed opening batter who played for West Indies, Scotland, Barbados and Middlesex. He scored 17 hundreds in ODIs, the most by any player till Sachin Tendulkar, and had a Test average of 42.29.
Desmond Haynes is one of the greatest batsmen to ever play for the West Indies, forming a formidable opening partnership with Gordon Greenidge in Test cricket. He scored 7,487 runs in 116 Tests, 854 runs in 25 World Cup matches, and played for Middlesex in England.
