David Murray Oates (3 April 1946 – 15 January 1992), known as Dee Murray, was an English bass guitarist. He was best known for his long-time collaboration with Elton John as a member of the Elton John Band.

Dee Murray was a legendary bassist who played with Elton John, Steve Winwood, and other artists from the mid-Sixties to the late Eighties. He died in 1992, but his melodic and rhythmic contributions to Elton John's best work are still cherished by fans and musicians.
