Stephen John Hunter (born June 14, 1948) is an American guitarist, primarily a session player. He has worked with Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, acquiring the moniker "The Deacon".

19 de feb. de 2024 · Steve (The Deacon) Hunter’s new 10-track CD release is one part covers and one part originals. In total, a great showcase of his arranging skills and guitar prowess. Of particular interest, he now sings his own songs — a first since his 1977 debut solo, Swept Away , when afterwards he decided to no longer sing.
The Deacon. 'The Deacon' was Steve Hunter's second solo album. It was released in 1989. Steve was living in Hollywood, CA and was finding it hard to get work. His blues based style was not the flavor of the month anymore. Glam Rock was in and the phone was not ringing.
Steve Hunter (The Deacon) was born in Decatur Illinois in 1948, at age 19 he was drafted into the US army and deployed to Okinawa, Japan, where he worked as an x-ray tech in the air vac hospital. Having learned to play the lap steel from eight years old he had moved on to guitar and continued to play as much as he could whilst in the army.
