    At the beginning of the 1947-1948 school years Howard was converted into a five year high school. With this conversion, Howard developed strong and winning football, basketball, baseball and track teams. The male students were coached by Mr. T. Herman Graves and Mr. Ralph W. Long; the females by Miss Sarah Hill and Miss Marian Armstrong.
