Three of the founding members - David Henman (guitar), Ritchie Henman (drums), and their cousin Jim Henman (bass) - were originally in a band named Prism (not to be confused with the Vancouver-based band of the same name). After a brief break to attend university, the trio reformed with Myles Goodwyn on lead vocals and guitar.
It all began in Nova Scotia late in 1969. The Henman brothers, David and Ritchie, got together with their cousin Jim Henman and fellow musician Myles Goodwyn to form a band called April Wine, a name chosen simply because they were two words that sounded good together.
Fast Train, written by Goodwyn, became April Wine’s first hit. It’s fast paced pop-oriented sound really jumps out in comparison to the “anti-commercial” sound on other parts of the record. David Henman sums up his approach to the music. Fast Train shows up on the soundtrack of a movie called Natural Enemy. 01.
