Repeat When Necessary is the fifth album by Welsh rock musician Dave Edmunds. Produced by Edmunds, it was released in 1979 by Swan Song Records. It was recorded and released at the same time as Nick Lowe 's Labour of Lust, and features the same lineup of musicians: Edmunds, Lowe, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams .

Dave Edmunds was one of the first people to look for the future of rock and roll in its past. As the '70s started to look like the decade of singer-songwriters, Edmunds wasn't much more than a guy who loved Chuck Berry and George Jones and played a guitar that owed more to Ike Turner than to Eric Clapton.

His solo career, which embraced an American roots-oriented sensibility encapsulating rockabilly, soul, and R&B, kicked off with a cover of Fats Domino's "I Hear You Knockin'" that became an international hit in 1971.
