The History of Darwin. Darwin College was established in 1964 at Newnham Grange, the home of descendants of Charles Darwin from 1885 to 1963. Founded by Trinity, St John’s and Gonville & Caius Colleges as a home for research students, it became the University of Cambridge’s first postgraduate-only College, and the first to admit both women and men.
