Summary. As the guitarist of the Soft Machine, Daevid Allen had, in theory, a crucial role in starting the Canterbury school of progressive-rock.In practice, Allen was only vaguely related to the school's main stylistic directions. Allen was, first and foremost, a hippie/freak who wed Frank Zappa's paradoxical aesthetics and San Francisco's communal ethos.
Daevid Allen and New York Gong, aka Material, recorded live in the States in 1979. All tracks recorded in Kansas except A1. Reissue of a previous cassette release called "Daevid Allen Live In USA 79" issued by Ottersongs in 1981. Side B is Daevid Allen solo, reciting poetry, sometimes with a few musical backing by unidentified musician (s).
