Constance Mary Demby was an American musician, composer, painter, sculptor, and multimedia producer. Her music fell into several categories, most notably new age, ambient and space music. She is best known for her 1986 album Novus Magnificat and her two experimental musical instruments, the sonic steel space bass and the whale sail.

Constance DembyComposer, musician New age recording artist Constance Demby is known for her innovative sounds, which are produced on giant metal instruments she invented, as well as for her use of ethnic instruments and synthesized classical music. Demby believes that the universe is made of music, and incorporates her spiritual beliefs into her compositions.
Constance Demby, whose ethereal music, some of it played on instruments she designed, was much admired by New Age adherents, spiritual seekers and fans of electronica, died on March 19 in Pasadena, California. She was 81. Her son and only immediate survivor, Joshua Demby, said the cause was complications of a heart attack.
